Back in October, we were once again proud to take part in the Cheadle Arts Festival. The theme of the festival was Sharing the News which tied in nicely with Louie’s talk entitled The Secret Stories of Pugin’s Gem. Louie not only told the stories of the hidden symbols within the church but also shared spooky tales and legends, including the origin of gargoyles.
After the talk, the audience was treated to a performance by the talented Cheadle Community Band and enjoyed colouring Pugin tiles while they listened. The band even went along with the AWN Pugin theme and played a rousing rendition of Edvard Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, a piece that is synonymous with Alton Towers.
Thanks go to Cheadle Art's Festival for having us as part of the festival, to Rick Hermolle for organising the music and tech, Cheadle Community Band for their fantastic performance and to Lee Munro for so beautifully capturing it all.
If you would like to contribute a tile, the designs can be downloaded here. Send a scan or photograph of your completed tiles along with your name and location to louie@louieyoung.com and don’t forget to check back and see your art on the website!
