Pugin Tile Art Project Launch

It has certainly been a creative month as August saw the launch of Pugin’s After Dark’s first collaborative art project. The Pugin Tile Art Project made its debut at Barthomley WI near Crewe where the ladies learnt all about Pugin’s work and influence at Alton Towers before taking up the colouring pencils and crayons to colour in an array of beautifully Pugin designed tiles.

The completed tiles will each form a part of a continually growing collage which will not only be available to view online but will also be displayed at future events and talks. The project aims to not only inspire creativity but is also to celebrate and raise awareness of Pugin's wonderful work.

The following afternoon, I took the project to the home crowd of Alton WI before heading to my biggest audience yet at Hammerwich WI near Lichfield, which rounded up the two-day mini tour. It was truly a wonderful experience, not only down to the warm hospitality and welcome I received, but also to see how engaged and enthused everyone was about Pugin's work and the abundance of creativity it stimulated.

At the end of the month, Pugin After Dark also took part in Alton Community Events first ever Made in Alton'ish Festival which was a celebration of all things made, grown and created in the village. It was the first time the tiles created so far were publicly displayed and also gave attendees the opportunity to add their own to the project.

It has been a fantastic start to the Pugin Tile Project and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed so far and also made this all possible. There are further events and talks already in the works, but don't worry if you can't make an event as you can still take part. Each of the tile designs can be downloaded here, ready for you to colour in, along with details of how to submit them to the project.

To view the tiles submitted so far, learn more about the project or if you would like to book a talk and or workshop, please visit the Pugin Tile Project's page here.
